The Fairfield neighbourhood of Victoria, British Columbia is rife with talented artists! Tour artist studios and galleries throughout the region for a peek into Victoria's culture and artistic world view. The annual Fairfield Artist's Studio Tour gives locals and visitors a  unique opportunity to see the artists in their own studios and to chat with them about their work.

Rosemary James lives a few blocks from Dashwood Manor Bed and Breakfast. Guests can see examples of her work in our Oxford Grand and Park Lane rooms. Rosemary grew up with architects aplenty in her family – father, uncle and grandfather. For a short while she was indentured as an architectural student with her father.  In 1951 she moved to Toronto where she worked as secretary for the esteemed architectural firm of Fleury & Arthur. In 1978 Rosemary returned to her native Victoria and has dedicated herself to painting buildings. "The Life and Times of Victoria Architect, P. Leonard James" is her award winning book about the life of her famous father.Robert Amos, celebrity Victoria artist in Cook Street Village

Robert Amos is well known for his work depicting local scenes and buildings.
He is an art writer for the local newspaper, the Times Colonist, and a tremendous supporter for Victoria's artistic community. Walk the few short blocks to his home studio and enjoy seeing the range of his work on the Cook Street Village and other, local subjects first hand.


Fairfield artist Deryk HoustonDeryk Houston
is a renowned, outspoken and passionate Victoria artist who exhibits internationally. He has mounted one man exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Scotland, Iraq, and the former Soviet Union. His work was featured in the documentary film "From Baghdad to Peace Country" by the National Film Board of Canada.

Valentine's Quilt by Sharon Layzell, Victoria's Quilting Guild


Sharon is a quilter and member of the Victoria Quilters' Guild. See the guild website for information on their speakers and special events. If you're interested in courses or quilting groups, this guild actively supports its members in providing information. Victoria has five excellent quilting shops, including Satin Moon Quilt Shop on Government Street at Fisgard in Victoria's historic Chinatown district. Jill Louise Campbell is a local artist from Salt Spring Island whose international reputation has grown in the past ten years as her work has caught visitors' attention through her gallery in Ganges and, previously, in Downtown Victoria. Her work is prominently places in a number of colourful pieces throughout Dashwood Manor Bed and Breakfast.
